Levi Asher’s psychological analysis of Rand and Objectivism, Why Ayn Rand Is Wrong (and Why It Matters). He treats the idea that humans are basically self-interested with the respect it deserves and rebuts it successfully with three separate arguments: that the premise is never checked (the biggest Randian no-no, and yet she was guiltiest of this of all!); that each of us possesses an individual self and a collective self; and that even the individual self as described by Descartes, that of the thinking self, is not limited to the physical self or its physical needs. Once we understand that our thinking and feeling go beyond our bodies—that they are are, in fact, affected by other human beings—, we accept we are not only interdependent but connected with all other living beings.
